I laughed out loud at the packing cubes discussion. I am a clothes roller for anything soft, and I fold jackets, crushable dresses, etc with tissue paper inside. Cubes wouldn’t work for me at all.
great introduction to a reputable travel expert and much appreciated as I'm doing a lot of traveling these days, Guatemala, China, Brazil, and Paris this year and probably a repeat with some variation next...
He's done a lot of traveling and has experienced a lot of places. It's always good to get advice from several sources as there's not one-size-fits-all method of travel, but it's interesting how Matt stays in youth hostels...and gets amazing deals on business class travel!
BTW just got a copy in the mail of Ready for Dessert (part deux) for my birthday!! I can’t wait to dive in but I’m so attached to the original it feels like I’m betraying it 🤪
Thanks for all you do! I’ve lived in Paris and grew up in Berkeley so am a Panisse fan from way back and appreciated you before I knew who you are 😍 Thank you!!
As one of thousands of young backpackers—always with a Maple Leaf badge sewn on the backpack—we considered Frommer’s “Europe on $5 A Day” something like a bible, although most of us couldn’t afford $5/day and tried to keep expenses down to around $3/day.
