I made these croissants today and oh, my….they are so perfect. I adore an almond croissant and knowing that I can now make them myself at home is probably not a good thing! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe.
I was just looking at your book today to find a recipe for quiche. It was interesting. How you made the tart dough . I have to try it. I hope that I never have to renovate again.
I've learned that it takes a very (very) long time to do tv or film as there are lots of layers of people involved, from producers to screenwriters. It had been optioned before Covid but ran into issues, so another producer picked it up. Streaming services have also changed, what they're looking for, budgets, etc...so we'll see!
On the upside, UBS ports have changed. But it was curious (or, infuriating) they somehow "lost" the electric plans (in those days, I wasn't smart enough to make copies or take a photo of them...since I was more trusting) but now I'm sharper and wouldn't let that happen. They were also kinda crazy, so discussing anything or making changes (even if I agreed to pay for them) was frustrating, and sometimes even scary..
L’Appart is still one of my most favorite books! I read it during my kitchen remodel. Fortunately for me Claude does not do business in California! Your travails helped me keep things in perspective! I have been meaning to tackle the almond croissants for ages! Will definitely do that now!
Once year for my b-day I make a loaf of (your) Pain d'epices--which is about as complicated as my baking will ever get--This year I "discovered" hot honey and when I blended it up with some cream cheese and schmeared it on the Pain d'epices---well, Happy Birthday to me!
I really love your writing, David, I lol so much, thank you for that gift too.
Oh, L'Appart!; I was so anxious for you during that entire book. It is so painful to see the worst of people that we have to trust.
Almond Croissants are my absolute favorite. I really almost wish I didn't know now how within reach they are. I have never every thought of making them from home, thinking they would need to start with homemade croissants (croissants and deep frying always seem a bridge too far). Thank you???
I just adore this recipe! I have come back a couple times to make it. Thank you so much for showing us how easy it is to make these!
I loved L'Appart. My only complaint was that there were no photos of the disaster. A tv series would be a must watch for me.

This is always a winner! And a TV series? David in Paris, would be great fun.
Yum!
I cannot make these croissants. I will weigh two tons! LOL!
L'appart optioned for television? And who do you imagine would play you on the screen? C'mon, I know you've thought about it...
And, yes, I loved the book.
I was thinking of Mike White...but that was before The White Lotus, and I think he's got his hands full now with that : )
I mean, you're not wrong, but the correct answer for any guy when asked "who would play you in the movie"? It's always Clooney. Always.

I cannot wait for L’Appart to be made into a movie or show! It must happen!

I loved L'Appart, and I will never get over the USB plugs in the kitchen. 😂

Yikes. What a disaster. Glad you have moved on.
I will definitely make those croissants aux amandes. Noticed that the recipe in your book
mentions that the leftover frangipane can be frozen, which is good because my husband won't
eat sweets. When I bake, I usually give away the bakes that turn out well. Cheers from S.FL, Kate

A tv series of L’Appart would be a dream come true.
