I’ve been following your life in France & making your recipes for years. I’m a fan! But watching you & Romain in your backyard showing us the “fruits” of a recent food shopping expedition was absolutely charming. Especially Romain’s contributions in French & English. He’s a brilliant asset.

Sorry, somebody may have already asked, but can you put your resource for the anchovies in this link? I would love to order some really good ones unless you know of a source here in the US?

They're from here: https://www.callolserrats.com/fr/

In Catalonia/Spain

You can get them in the U.S. from Beaune Imports: https://beauneimports.securecheckout.com/

I don't get an affiliate fee : ) but recommend getting the largest jar, or two, and storing them in the refrigerator. They'll last a while in there and the smaller jars/tins, I think you'd use up pretty quickly.

I’m eating Isigny de Mere butter here. Tempted to buy Le Bordier now. I hear it’s even better than the Isigny de Mere. I can eat the butter all by itself right out of the package.

I’m so hungry now.

David. Do you have a recipe for the flan? I have only ever made Julia’s Crème Caramel Reversee and obviously your flan is a different thing totally. Thanks. That bread looks great!

Thank you so much. Praying you both survive the next heat wave over there. Our lack of rain here outside of Philadelphia is very problematic for our crops.

David…thank you for the French lesson as well. I cannot converse in French BUT, I can always read a menu. Call it Food French.

A little late to the party but I want to say this video was a great stress-reliever and you should consider including Romain in more videos, Not only is he helpful without being asked but he is funny too and I wish I could understand spoken French so I could truly understand his humor.

Please do your best to stay comfortable during the heat. Cheers from Kate in Boca-adjacent.

I live in Brittany and your shopping looks pretty much like my shopping! You might want to try getting sheep's milk at the supermarket, it's usually right next to the goats milk. The texture and flavor are so great for coffee and Béchamel, you will love it! Romain is indeed the nicest Parisian in the world, you two are adorable together 🥰

Yes it's Lactel UHT and sterilized but it tastes so darn good and the texture is amazing. I mainly use it for my Capuccino and occasionally for baking and cooking. It that terrible? Normally I am Local and Organic but it's so easy and good!

David Lebovitz's avatar

I've only seen them UHT in Paris, although maybe once or twice I saw bottles at a fromagerie at the market. But most are sterilized.

C'est magnifique! I am a long time (American francophile) subscriber and I loved this video. It was so interesting to hear how you shop. And to hear how you are dealing with the heat (here in the US too) and to see Romain working with you! Merci beaucoup.

It's so different in the U.S. because so many people have AC - 90% of U.S. households have AC vs. 20% in Europe, and we've had 3 major heatwaves (so far...) this year, it's really changed things.

Hopefully the growers can recover quickly from this!
