I'm with you. Cherry pitters are great. Who wants to futz with a paper clip, bobby pin, whatever instead of getting the job done fast so you can get to eating cherry desserts?

Also, cherry pitters aren't unitaskers; we use them for olives and my imaginative husband just figured out that they work well to pit lychees.

The celebrity chef is Alton Brown. He famously rails against unitaskers. I was amused when I watched an the episode of Good Eats (my favorite cooking show by a landslide) titled Wake Up Little Sushi. He recommends against buying a rice cooker as he perceives it as a unitasker. He then proceeds to pull out a sushi roll mat.

I don’t bake fruit pies too often, but I have a friend who does, and she gave me a cherry pitter contraption that pits four cherries at a time. It even has a “holder” that the pits drop into. I don’t recall the company name. It works pretty well if I’m ever in need of pitiless cherries. (I love eating them “au naturale.”)🍒🍒🍒
