Slugs! They love beer, put dishes filled with beer around your garden and overnight you will be surprised how many slugs have drowned in them. A friend told me this trick and it has cleared all the slugs from my raised beds. Good luck. :)

Your comments anout Diana Kennedyβs prickliness made me chuckle β¦she yelled at me once (yes, YELLED!) in a cooking class at Peter Kumpβs NewYork Cooking School, when I asked her if there were any Mexican restaurants in NYC that she liked. βRESTAURANTS!!??β she snapped, in front of the entire class, βDonβt be ridiculous! The best food is what you make at HOME!!β
Of course I felt like crawling under a table at the time, but nowadays, Iβm like you, I donβt get bothered by what people like or donβt likeβ¦
I still admire her authenticity, however, she really was brilliant and I have several of her books; may she rest in Mexican Heaven!
Bonjour David, wonderful post, as always! Though now I want Mexican food, but I wouldn't be able to finish one of those burritos either now that I'm accustomed to smaller portions.
This is about the Chocolate chip tahini cookie recipe. I made it exactly as the recipe instructed. OMGOSH it is sublime!!! I brought the cookies to a plant sale workday and everyone that took the first bite was followed by OMG. Followed by the happiest praises. I gave you all the credit.
$7 does seem high for a pint of strawberries. Those would be $5 in season in Ann Arbor and a quart would be $9. (We are weeks away.) But, a latte with tip is now $7 many places, so if they are able to get it, they should go for it.
I had a cortado at a coffee shop a few blocks away from the greenmarket and it was $5.50 (which didn't include tax and tip.) But I know the cost of living has increased a lot, as well as gas prices and others things. I'm in LA right now and a dish of two ice creams at a restaurant last night was $16 (plus tax and tip) - however, they were excellent...and was shared between 4 of us.
Iβd like to know more about your French belly and why it canβt do a whole burrito. I know you eat well in Parisβ¦ but is it just the Americanβ¦ bulk? The carb bomb of it all? Or something else. I want to know how strange has trained your stomach.
Portion sizes tend to be smaller in France, so after a while, your stomach capacity shrinks. I think it also varies by region. I've never been able to get through a serving of cassoulet in the south or choucroute in Alsace.
I was LOLing at your SoMa comment about unrestrained fun/restraints in years past. If you say so, I'm sure it's the case! Like you, the whole foggy vibes of San Francisco is a vibe killer for me, and I will always be team SoCal. Glad you're having a nice time on your book tour despite as I had read in your previous post that travel is most definitely not glamourous. Airports, baggage, Lyft, traffic, things closing 2 minutes before you arrive, yep I hear that!
Much like it is advised not to go shopping while hungry, it's best to never read this newsletter while hungry. Or, well, anytime because CHOCOLATE. Sorry, I'll calm down now...
I was so glad to finally get to meet you early on at your signing at Market Hall. That was when you had time to chat. You showed us a picture of Romainβs table project before you were too exhausted by the long, long line Howard and I noticed as we left with a freshly signed, previously owned, well used (by Howard) copy of βMy Paris Kitchenβ and
David!! So fun to read about your food escapades in SF and environs. My home town. I would have loved to meet you at Market Hall or other of your stops. Alas, we are in Paris till this Friday!! Lovely to see your reference about Chuck Williams, I am heartsick that the that beautiful W-S store on Union Square has closed, and sadder it was the last on in the CIty!!
Tacos unico in Compton great food careful when eating pickled carrots otherwise you will have a river of tears!
David, PLEASE narrate your own videos. I so much prefer your voice!! I donβt think that is you, correct?

When we went to the Morris, we were not that impressed with the slushy so the server came back with a chartreuse
espresso that was fabulous.

A shot of espresso used to be $2 at many places. I noticed recently that it was now $3.75. When the base goes up, everything follows.
In case you see this will you be launching in New England???
