Looking forward to meeting you at Friends & Family next week in Los Angeles. Will be picking up my copy of your new book. Hope it's OK to bring a few others for you to sign! :)
I'm sorry i missed your tour, I would have baked you one of my NYC pies that Ligaya Mishan once called "old masters." You went to some of my favorites spots (Marcel is out of my price range. ) If you ever go to Hani again, try their hibiscus bun - yum! And come up to Harlem to try Bo's bagels, much better than Apollo.
I made the halvah-pistachio Rice Krispie treats for my DIL’s baby shower last June. (The NYT printed the recipe.) I’ve learned the hard way not to make a double batch: they got so stiff so fast that I couldn’t even mix it. Ended up running out for more supplies and remaking them before we got in the car to drive up to New York. They are fabulous.
When you are at Market Hall, Trader Joe's is on the other side of the BART station, where you can get your fill of "everything" bagel seasoning. Boichik Bagels (down College at Alcatraz) has a killer everything pumpernickel bagel - "pumperthingy." And... the Cheeseboard has expanded and remodeled, and Cesar's is now Bar Panisse.
Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll be back in nyc this weekend and will check out the Banh Mi place. As a vegetarian, my restaurant tastes diverge from yours, but I read it all!
It's a great sandwich. Just be sure to order online and when you do, they'll give you a pick up time. It's much easier (or so i was told) The bbq pork was soooo good - but huge. Ok to share!
When I go to NYC, where a generous friend sometimes loans me her flat, the first thing I do is order bagels, cream cheese, lox and capers delivered. I stash some of the bagels in the freezer for the trip home. Then, I have a bagel, no matter whether I have lunch or dinner plans. It tells me I am there and let’s get to it.
From todays NYT.....plan for your next trip David. And the banh mi hole in the wall made the cut.

Bonjour David, Wonderful post, except now I want one of those bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers.
Thank you
Your pictures are gorgeous, as always. I hope to make it to your signing in Paris!
Looking forward to that on the 30th!
Such a pleasure meeting you at Rizzoli! Can I also point out how charming your fans are as well? Now, I have some (chocolate) baking to do...
Thanks for coming and yes, everyone who came was lovely...and charming, too : )

I am enjoying seeing all of the things you were able to eat in NYC. That Paris-Brest!
I ordered your book from my local independent bookstore here in Napa, and I am anxiously waiting for it to arrive!
Thanks for getting the book and hope you like baking from it, and reading it too : )
