I'm still using the KitchenAid of Revenge, the one my mother ordered from Marshall Fields in 1972 when my dad left, with ALL the attachments. Before he cut off her credit account. It came to me in the 90s, and although I need to send it to Mr. Mixer for a tune up, I use it nearly weekly, and it still works fine.

The original beater blade, which I still have around here somewhere, was uncoated! It's plain metal, but not stainless, something else, and a rough enough texture that I was happy to upgrade to the plastic coated one when they came out. See also the dough hook.

But I think I need the cool scrapey blade ... hmm.

Stellar post David! A former professional baker and instructor, I am still on my original KA 5.5 mixer at home…. With the chipped coated paddle. It bugs me every time I take it out. I have never put it in the dishwasher either. Thank you for the link to Mr. mixer. I will be ordering a new paddle from them.

On the same note, I am saddened and surprised that Kitchen Aid hasn’t reached out to you about this problem and remedied it and also, that they have missed a huge profitable opportunity to improve and sell an updated paddle.

Thx again!
