Thank you so much for sharing the NYT article on Haiti. I wasn’t aware of this history at all. European colonialism has so much to answer for. I continue to be educated.

I love your monthly newsletter. This weekend I was in a coffee shop in Tiverton RI. When I sat down I noticed the books displayed on a shelf --

My Paris Kitchen and Drinking French. I talked about how I love these books and I talked about your chocolate tart. My friends pulled them down and after lots of browsing they ordered them! My husband rolled his eyes and confessed that he ate most of the tart!

I think they check passports as you are exiting to see if visitors have overstayed their time in the Schengen countries. There is a hefty fine if you exceed the max days. Or...I could be wrong.😎

Hmm. Maybe...but it wasn't always that way, or at least I don't remember. They were trying to automate things and have kiosks to scan passports, to cut down on the lengthy lines but most of them have been out of order or just a few are working. Paris airports better get ready for the Olympics crowd!

Things have reversed! From taking Mostly Americans on tours of culinary Paris, you're now taking French people on tours of culinary New York!! I wonder if the two groups of different nationalities made for a different guiding experience?

A number of people have and (unfortunately) bad view of food in America because they're not familiar with all the greenmarkets and so forth, so it's nice to show visitors that there's very good food in America. In France, a number of people don't know Mexican food, and it's not well-represented there (although that's changing) so I made tacos last night with carne asada, guacamole, and salsa...and everybody loved them!

Just arrived in Paris and was surprised to see a line of customers waiting at the door of Mr. Garden. It appears to be a salad bar like those in the U.S. What makes it so popular?

Take-out food has really become popular in Paris with young people, something that took off during the pandemic but people really like it now that it's spring so they can take it and eat outside. I don't know that place, but the salad bars in France aren't quite as interesting as the ones in the U.S. Romain LOVES the salad bar at Whole Foods ;)

I just returned to the US from Paris. To Covid test I used the Abott/Navica online testing--You get sealed kits from Abbot and go online where a proctor supervises the testing. The result is e-mailed within minutes of completion. As long as you have a strong internet connection the process is easy. You can set up an automatic share with United.

How easy was it to set up the online appt? I went online and it says it's all sold out? I will be coming back from Corsica to JFK next month and I am getting a bit nervous about the whole testing requirements. I just hope I can find local pharmacies that offer Covid testing in Corsica. Yikes...

It was very easy--I did it at an airport hotel with good internet. Google the Optum store or Navica--You just have to carry the test boxes with you

Yes, no one gives you any problems if you want to wear a mask in Paris, at least in my experience. I've started wearing the EU equivalent of a N95 mask in certain places, but they're less-comfy than the blue surgical mask, albeit a lot more effective.

I still wear that kind of mask whenever I take public transit here in Rennes and when we recently visited Paris. Last Fall, in Venice, they required that kind of mask to go up to the top of the San Marco Campanile bell tower. If you didn't have one, they were handing them out free! They had cases of them! I even managed to climb the 463 steps to the top of the Duomo in Florence!
