The delicious old-fashioned pastry shop on rue 8 Rue de l'École de Médecine, is called Pâtisserie Viennoise! Last year I brought a container and got three flan parisians to takeout since I was staying in the 14th w/a friend. I usually stay in a studio rental, steps from the shop. I like their apple pie too. Now I'll have to try the Landemaine flan this year. I have fond memories of eating an almond croissant from La Grande Epicerie that felt like it weighted a pound! Hope you had a safe flight back from LA. From the Oak/Berk area.
I love Phil's blog site and was thrilled that he visited Portland. What a treat for David and Phil to get together. I appreciated the tips on pastry in Paris/France. When I spent some time in France at the end of summer, all I could find in the area I was in were canelés, which I am not fond of. I did sample one small one filled with ganache that was good. If you are ever in Bordeaux, do not pass up the kouign amann at the Maison Georges. It is the best pastry I have ever eaten. It doesn't look like much, but when you bite into those payers of buttery goodness with just the right amount of sweetness you will be transported to pastry paradise.
Haven’t heard the podcast yet, but I recognize the chocolate almond croissant. We’ve been in Paris now for about 36 hours and have ready consumed one of those, nearly an entire loaf of pain aux céréales, 3/4 of a thing of butter and quite a lot Comte. I think it’s all good for jet lag?
I don't know to provide one of those. I think there are services that do it but I've got my hands full and I've heard often the transcriptions aren't so spot-on.
I had a gourmand houseguest last fall. He discovered the croissant amandes at my boulangerie and started setting his alarm for 07h30 every morning because they sell out by 08h00. I had to evict him after a three day stay turned into 3 weeks. I blame the croissants.

I like that shop and wrote about them in my book The Sweet Life in Paris as they have great hot chocolate!
What a great show!
I was puzzled by the chocolate croissant aux amandes. Then I saw the picture: a pain au chocolat! Now that makes sense. Miam!
Never mind🤣
Can’t find way to access podcast.

I'm not sure they are the cure for jet-lag...but they sure make it easier to cope with ;)
My 2 favorite food people. Would love to eat and chat with you both❤️
Thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. Phil is always a delight & fun
I would like to have a transcription of the podcast. Is that possible?
Hi Carol,
I don't know to provide one of those. I think there are services that do it but I've got my hands full and I've heard often the transcriptions aren't so spot-on.
So much fun! But isn't Phil on a book tour right now...?
Yes, he's been on book tour and came to Paris for it, and we got to spend a few days together while he was in town.
Two of my most favorite guys in all the land!! 💜👏 👏

Obvious question: Where is your boulangerie?
In the 3rd arrondissement near Arts & Métiers, Ernest & Valentin…super nice boulanger et caissiers.
